Brandon Kalbaugh has been leading the charge as the Theatre Director at Lightridge High School since the auditorium first “opened” in 2020. With over a decade of teaching experience in LCPS since 2010, Kalbaugh has been an integral part of the DMV arts scene. His work as a director and teaching artist has spanned organizations like Reston’s Young Actors’ Theatre, Pied Piper Theatre, InterAct, Encore Performers, and The Washington National Opera.
Before bringing his passion to Lightridge, he made a name for himself in New York City’s Off-Off-Broadway scene, acting in productions with The Looking Glass Theatre, DM Theatrics, Shotgun Productions, and others. He also brought his comedic talents to the stage with the Improv Knights in NYC comedy clubs. As a director and performer, Kalbaugh's career has taken him across New York’s theatre festivals and indie film productions, where his creative vision has consistently shone through.
Kalbaugh co-founded the Two Spoons Theatre Company, where he served as Artistic Director and helped produce original plays like Have You Seen This Man? and the acclaimed Teaspoon Festival. As a playwright, he has written nearly 100 works, with many produced in both New York and Virginia. He has also worked in literary departments at The New Group Theatre Company and The Dramatists Guild of America.
Kalbaugh's behind-the-scenes experience is just as rich, having worked as a stagehand in Portland, OR, stage manager for the Washington Performing Arts Society in DC, and as a sound technician, videographer, and road manager for the New York City Dance Alliance. He has toured nationally as the Boy in The Emperor's Nightingale and performed with The Texas Musical Drama.
